You do not have to be a member to join us on a hike.
Founded in 1921, the Tramp and Trail Club of Utica, Inc., is the oldest hiking club in New York State. We have conducted over 6000 official weekend hikes as well as countless interesting evenings, overnight trips and social events. The hikes vary in length from an afternoon walk, to an all day cross-country ski trip, to a 15 or 16 mile climb in the Adirondack High Peaks. They may include hikes on roads, foot trails, bushwhacking, or mountain climbing. In response to the interests of members, we schedule kayak/canoe trips to local rivers and lakes, historic walking hikes, and bicycle trips. The Tramp and Trail Club is basically a hiking club and schedules two events each and every weekend of the year regardless of the weather. The activities of the club are organized and led by volunteer members.
We are blessed to live in a beautiful part of the world and we welcome you to come out and join us.
The schedule is posted on this website.

For Our New Members Considering Joining Us On A Hike! Here is a little information to help you get started!
Preregistration For Hikes:
DEC protocol has set limits on the number of hikers that can be in a group at a time. On state lands, it is 20 hikers. In the Adirondacks, it is 15 hikers. In the Catskills, it is 20 hikers (but 12 is recommended for wilderness areas). Because of these protocols, you may need to preregister for a Tramp outing. The schedule will tell you for each hike if preregistration is required.
You may call, text, or email the leader starting the Monday before the hike. If you must cancel, please contact the leader ASAP so that someone on the waiting list can take your place. If you do not preregister and show up at the meeting place, the leader will turn you away if the hike is already at full capacity.
Questions About A Hike:
If you are unsure about a hike’s description, how difficult or easy a hike may be depending on your abilities, any equipment you might need to bring depending on the weather conditions, or other questions, don’t hesitate to call the leader! They will gladly help!
