7423 Middlesettlement Lake

Write-up: Gregg Sipp
Leader: Gregg Sipp
Co-Leader:Russ Myers

The goal was to be at the lean-to before the rain hit.  It was optimistic, knowing the meteorologists are not the most accurate with forecasting.  The first ½ mile was great, stopping at the first intersection.  This was until someone in the group yelled out “are we going to talk or hike”.  Ouch! She did have a point.  Little did I know that, that was going to be indicative of the entire hike.

The first two miles were odd. The group watched Pauly Acorn wandering around the forest planting acorns that he brought with him which slowed the pace considerably.  The next two miles got rough, not from the muddy trail, navigating the water logged bog, or the beaver dam crossing, it came from a woman yelling, “I’m getting hungry”.  Scary words that saw the pace increase significantly.  We made it in time for her to have lunch.  Sitting at the lean-to, we viewed a dreary, depleted lake.  The water level had to be down at least 6 feet, if not more.  Sharon is going to enquire about it and let us know.  The hike was 9 miles when all said and done and there was a lot said.  The rain wasn’t that bad to the lean-to, and stopped when we finished up lunch.

Thanks to Russ for stepping up to co-lead and great to see the return of Carol.
